Climate Finance Legal Internships
The Climate Finance Legal Internship offers law students a unique opportunity to engage deeply with the intersection of environmental law, finance, and policy to support climate action in emerging markets. Interns will work with the Social Finance Lab team to explore innovative legal frameworks and contribute to designing Climate Finance Impact Funds that drive the shift to sustainable energy in the Global South. This program is ideal for law students interested in building practical skills, expanding their professional portfolios, and connecting with leaders in climate finance and sustainable development.
As a Climate Finance Legal Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with legal and policy work focused on advancing climate finance. You’ll assist in structuring legal frameworks for Climate Finance Impact Funds, support regulatory compliance, and collaborate with key stakeholders to establish investment-friendly policies for renewable energy projects. Interns will play a pivotal role in shaping policies that protect communities, foster sustainable development, and facilitate the transition to clean energy.
Key Internship Responsibilities:
Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on international and domestic legal frameworks influencing climate finance, carbon markets, and renewable energy, providing strategic insights for fund structuring.
Contract and Policy Drafting: Draft and review contracts, MOUs, and investment agreements, ensuring legal compliance and addressing risk factors for climate finance initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance and Due Diligence: Support due diligence efforts, assessing compliance with environmental, safety, and social standards critical to renewable energy projects and climate finance.
Policy Advocacy and Development: Contribute to policy recommendations that enhance investment incentives, de-risk climate finance, and support concessional funding models.
Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with public, private, and nonprofit partners to help align policies with climate finance goals, promoting cross-sector collaboration and regulatory innovation.
Communication and Advocacy Support: Develop policy briefs, white papers, and advocacy materials that highlight legal pathways for effective climate finance and equitable energy transitions.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Current law student with coursework or a demonstrated interest in environmental law, climate finance, or international regulatory frameworks.
Strong research and analytical skills with experience in contract drafting, policy analysis, or compliance work.
Passion for climate action and familiarity with legal aspects of renewable energy or sustainable finance (preferred but not required).
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively across legal, financial, and policy contexts.
